Fence Installation Safety

If you have a pool on your property safety is of the utmost importance. It's not just pertinent to you and your family, but to anyone who may be on your property. There are many regulations that you will have to follow if you are installing a pool, but there are a few tips if you already have a pool. Following these recommendations for fencing will ensure the safety of you and your family:

  • Height – Your fence should be at least four feet high. Check with your state and town regulations though, some areas may require a taller fence.
  • Structure – Find something that is hard for children to climb. This is one downside to chain-link fencing.
  • Durability – There are seasonal temporary mesh fencing options out there but these lead to a few problems. To maintain safety you'd need to install a rigid pool cover. And then there is the hassle of taking it down and putting it up.
  • Material – The type of material is completely up to you, but keep in mind the lifespan of your the material, this is one downside to a wood fence.
  • Gate – The gate needs to open outward, away from the pool area. A self closing, self latching fence is necessary.
